President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to resolving the persistent conflicts between farmers and herders in Nigeria. The clashes, which have resulted in the loss of numerous lives, have also put food production at risk.¹
Speaking in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tinubu emphasized that his renewed focus on driving international and local investments into the livestock sector of the agricultural value chain will end the crisis of farmer-herder clashes. This initiative aims to eradicate hunger and poverty in Nigeria while promoting economic prosperity.
The President's statement came during the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Nigerian Government and JBS S.A, one of the top three largest meat processing companies globally. Tinubu urged the company to tap into the $2.5 billion livestock investment opportunities in Nigeria, given its huge population and the company's expertise in guaranteeing food security.
Prior to his visit to Brazil, Tinubu had commissioned a team to conduct a study tour of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to explore opportunities in livestock development, meat processing, seed development, and multiplication for key grains.
The President's efforts to address the farmer-herder clashes are part of his administration's broader commitment to promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving food security in Nigeria.
