The All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a strong lead in the ongoing Ondo State governorship election, securing victories in all 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) that have been announced thus far. The results, declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), indicate that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is trailing in second place.
After the initial results were revealed, INEC announced a temporary recess in the collation process, which will resume at 5 AM. This pause is intended to allow the arrival of results from the remaining five local governments, which include Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje, and Ese Odo.
Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, the collation officer, explained the decision to pause the announcement of results. "We have five more local governments to declare, and we will take our recess now until 5 AM to receive results from these areas," he stated.
The 13 local governments for which results have been declared include Ifedore, Ondo East, Ileoluji Oke-Igbo, Idanre, Irele, Akoko South West, Owo, Ondo West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West, Ose, Akoko North East, and Akure South.
However, the election has not been without controversy. In Idanre, a representative from the PDP raised concerns over allegations of vote buying, ballot box snatching, and reports of no elections taking place in certain areas. This agent urged the returning officer to dismiss the results from Idanre due to these irregularities.
INEC National Commissioner Prof. Kunle Ajayi addressed the media in Akure before the collation began, assuring the public that the results would be finalized by 6 AM. "I can assure you that until we declare the winner, we won’t leave here. We will wait until the last local government before we leave," he said confidently.
As the situation develops, all eyes remain on the remaining five local governments, with expectations that the final results will soon clarify the outcome of the Ondo State governorship election.
