Tinubu Appoints Maduekwe As CEO of Nigeria’s Climate Change Agency

 

In a strategic move aimed at advancing Nigeria's climate change agenda, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) in an interim capacity. The appointment underscores President Tinubu's commitment to realizing Nigeria's green industrial vision and unlocking sustainable economic value through climate finance instruments.According to a release issued by presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Dr. Maduekwe's appointment is pending confirmation by the NCCC Supervisory Council. With an impressive academic background, including a Doctorate degree in Law from the University of Hull (UK), Dr. Maduekwe brings over 15 years of national and international experience in climate policy development and project implementation to her new role.Dr. Maduekwe's previous positions include serving as the Nigeria National Coordinator for Climate Parliament, an international network of legislators dedicated to addressing the climate crisis and promoting renewable energy. She also served as legal adviser to the NCCC Director-General, demonstrating her expertise in climate policy and governance.President Tinubu has further approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance & Stakeholder Engagement. Mr. Shelleng, who holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, will play a pivotal role in handling matters related to climate finance and fostering stakeholder relations within the NCCC Secretariat.Additionally, Mr. Olamide Fagbuji has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations. With a background in policy analysis and computer science, Mr. Fagbuji will oversee the digitalization of procurement processes and procedural optimization initiatives within the NCCC Secretariat.President Tinubu expects the new appointees to leverage their expertise and discipline to drive Nigeria's green industrial development and advance climate action initiatives for sustainable growth and national prosperity. The appointments, effective immediately, signal a renewed focus on addressing climate challenges and promoting environmentally sustainable policies in Nigeria's development agenda.
